A brief introduction to Domestic Violence in Puerto Rico

Domestic violence is a terrible branch of the violence and occurs when a family member, partner or ex-partner attempts to physically or psychologically dominate or harm the other. Consequently, there are differents forms of violence under this branch that are very important to us to know: physical, emotional, sexual or economic. Therefore,the dimensions and/or combination of this violences are mode(that includes these forms), frequency that is related with the time that the person causes too much injury to the other, and the last one severity is when the situation is severe and need medical support.

Since the domestic violence is part of our society, we have to make sense with it like contribute with social and medical orientation to these people who experiment that problem. In the last years, domestic violence cases rise in the island of Puerto Rico. According to the Government of P.R. and the House of Laws make a Law on August 15,1989 (Law 54). This Law is make for the prevention and intervention with the domestic violence for women or men. This detail is important to know because there are people who yet do not know that this Law protect also men cases.
